Features/characteristics: daylight sighting of black aerial object

Description:

The witness holds a private pilot license.

Clear and sunny conditions; a few high clouds. Duration of sighting approximately 6-10 seconds.

The witness was riding his motorcycle along Downs Road. At the junction with SH77 he stopped to look right to check for approaching traffic, when he saw an object approaching in the sky in the distance, and assumed it was an aircraft. He made a left turn, looked to the right over a fence and saw what he described as “a squashed doughnut” shaped object coming towards the road ahead of him, moving extremely fast. It crossed over the road just above tree-height, and was lost from view as it passed over trees. The witness sped up to find a gap in the trees in an attempt to see the object again, but in the intervening 3 or 4 seconds it had gone. He stated it resembled a “large burger size” in the distance, but clear enough to see the outline. There were no wings, tail, or sound.

The black ellipse-shaped object had no vertical surfaces, but had a very smooth outline with no visible textural features or writing on its surface. The witness emphasized his recollection of how sharp and distinct the outline was. He estimated the object covered a distance of 5-8 km in well under 10 seconds, and at its closest point to the observer, was some 1.5-2 km distant. At its closest proximity it looked to be about the “size of a living room.”

The witness stated, “I have flown (aircraft) a lot and I am familiar with most aircraft types, but this was really something else! The sheer speed, dark colour and absence of any exterior features were quite remarkable and I wished that the experience had lasted longer.”

The witness was left with various impressions – he pulled over to the side of the road on his motorcycle and tried to make sense of what he had seen and what it was. He described a “consciousness shift” at the time, during which he experienced heightened emotion, elation, empowerment, and regret that he could not photograph the object. He said he had been in car and bike accidents where time seems to slow, but this experience was different from that. He felt he went into some other state of mind. To the UFOCUS NZ interviewer, this sounded much like “oz factor” state of consciousness frequently described by UFO/UAP witnesses worldwide, where for several seconds the observer seems to operate in an altered state of consciousness and awareness that they feel is closely aligned to the UFO/UAP. All sound recedes, time seems to slow, and distinct feelings and emotions are a part of the experience. Another factor the witness reported was that he was left with the strong feeling that he cannot explain, that the surface of the object was “soft”, despite the distinct outline of a hard object.
